Project Overview:
The dramatic story of the cutthroat race between electricity titans Thomas A. Edison and George Westinghouse to determine whose electrical system would power the modern world.
The title design research began with a historical reference to typography in the late 1800s, about the time the film takes place. The challenge here was not to create a reflection of what was currently in use during those times but rather a forward-looking typeface that looks ahead of its time. One of the film's central themes is about the future rather than a story about the past. We wanted to communicate the same message with the typeface. For the display typeface, we combined serif and san-serif features within the characters to show a time bridge. We also placed unique design features within the letters that make the letter set to look like they are piecing together—a visual representation of the process of invention.
